Blowouts, hair dye and excessive brushing can all wreak havoc on our hair's health. But fear not, there are some helpful at-home hacks for looking after your hair – without having to go 'au naturel'. So if your hair's damaged or you just want to care for your locks in between salon appointments, follow these 5 expert tips for looking after your hair at home.

1. Use less heat

This might sound like an obvious one, but heat is normally the root cause of damage to your hair. This doesn't mean though you have to stop styling your hair, just opt for a tool that has adjustable temperature settings instead – that way you're in control of how much heat you're using on your hair. Plus, different hair types and textures need different temperatures for styling, too.

2. Choose expert haircare technology

Choosing the right tool for styling your hair at home is essential for looking after your hair. But with a plethora of hair styling tools available on the market, it can be pretty difficult to know which one is right for you. But one thing's for sure, choose one with salon-standard technology and your hair will thank you for it.

Ceramic-coated plates ensure a smooth, snag-free finish. Ionic technology emits negative ions to balance your hair's charge – in other words, it reduces static and frizz as you style. Discover all of this and more in our range of hair styling tools

3. Brush your hair

Now this one might seem really simple, but brushing your hair has great benefits for your hair and scalp, it helps to distribute oils from your roots (which don’t usually need it), to the ends of your hair (which will be very grateful for the extra moisture!).

If you’re not brushing your hair you could be finding your roots are getting greasier quicker and when there’s excessive build-up on your scalp, this can lead to more problems – like pesky dandruff!

But don't just choose a cheap supermarket brush, they won't do your hair any favours. Invest in smart brush technology that will boost shine, tame flyaways and distribute oils evenly. Opt for boar bristles if you suffer with oily hair. We've got plenty of vegan hair brushes, too, though that work to dry hair faster and deliver smooth results. Find them all in our hair brushes and accessories collection.

4. Treat your scalp

An area which is often completely overlooked during your hair regimen, but is essential for keeping your hair healthy. We recommend an invigorating scalp massage, which can do wonders for your hair and your mind too. Your circulation and blood flow is increased during the massage which delivers oxygen and essential nutrients to your scalp, rejuvenating the skin, encouraging the production of hair follicles and in turn accelerating the growth of healthy hair.

Scalp massages are also great for removing any dead skin cells on the scalp. Oil and product build-up can cause flaky skin and an irritated scalp. A scalp massage helps to buff any of this excess build-up away that hasn’t been removed from washing. We love the WetBrush Scalp Brush and Hayo'u Beauty Restorer Comb

5. Take hair-boosting supplements

Take care of your hair from the inside out with a supplement designed to give your hair the nutrients it needs to be healthy. The CURRENTBODY skin Hair, Skin and Nail Gummies are formulated with zinc, biotin, selenium and other key minerals that encourage hair growth and boosts shine.
